Fishing with big baits for Pike or Musky is a popular technique among anglers targeting these elusive freshwater predators. These fish are known for their voracious appetites and often prefer larger prey. When it comes to fishing large swim baits, generally what happens is that they come with pre-rigged hooks and splitrings, but sometimes a different approach can really increase the hookup rate. Most swimbaits have a large and thick profile and especially when it comes to trolling, a direct-release rig can make all the difference in the world. Quite recently, Pikecraft Fishing has developed a new product for this, and it is called the Quik Ring Release Pin!

Also, the Baddest swim baits like the ones from DRT work great on this rig!
This pin makes it easy to attach stingers or steel leaders directly to the lure and releases the stinger automatically when the fish bites. The pin is pressed into the hook eye on the bait and can go on and off with ease. Specially designed for large swim baits and hard baits, the pin now holds the steel leader or outside rig without interfering with the steel. When the fish bites, the pin releases through the slot as usual and the fish can be drilled freely, and the fish can be twisted free of the lure without it being able to lever itself out. The Quick Ring Release Pin is perfect for large trolling lures, the Quick Rig Pin can ensure that the leader/stinger is held securely onto the bait.

As you can see from the picture above, this system works well, and it is almost a perfect rig to detach when fishing. I have modified my release pins with a little size 3 splitting, so I can easily attach and detach it to any swivel system of my choice. Here the new stainless steel swivels from Pikecraft were used. It is a neat construction that not only can be used on this DRT KLASH09 LOW, but is also interchangeable and can be used on different baits as well!

Here is the DRT KLASH09 LOW, with the diving lip still on, but the rear treble on the release pin!
Last but not least on XXL Swim baits, the Quick Ring Release Pin from Pikecraft also works well. It has been designed with just that in mind, enabling anglers to worry-free rig when trolling large swim baits. The bigger the bait, the easier it is for a fish to use it as leverage and get rid of the bait once a fish is hooked. Now with this new rigging system the fish, in this case a Pike or Musky cannot throw the hooks anymore. It truly is a revolutionary design that works over and over again, and the best thing is that the possibilities are endless when it comes to customizing anything you want on your own preferred baits!

No problem on the biggest baits. Here the DRT GHOST in 33cm. Without the diving lip, and with a full-release rig!
Good luck on the water!
